Day 2MILAN
Breakfast and departure to visit Milan. This is the second largest city in Italy and the capital of the Lombardy Region. Panoramic tour of this amazing city which combines art, fashion, style and finance. We will see the Duomo, the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, the Scala Opera House and the amazing Castello Sforzesco, once home of the Sforza family, which houses Michelangelo’s last unfinished masterwork, the „Rondanini Pieta”. Finally take a walk also into the shopping area of Via Montenapoleone, where all major Italian stylists have their boutiques. Lunch on your own to taste local food. In the continue to the “New Milan”, a journey among the skyscrapers and stunning infrastructures of the urban revitalization scheme in the Garibaldi and Piazza Gae Aulenti area, with the imposing Unicredit tower, Isola and Varesine districts. This new architecture radically changed the Skyline of Milan. Start the tour in Piazza XXV Aprile walking to the famous Corso Como. Then on towards “new Milan” and the Residenze di Corso Como. Afterwards the famous Piazza Gae Aulenti, known for its art installations, water features, plays of light, its skyscrapers and the sculpture by Alberto Garutti, consisting of 23 golden “trumpets”, provides an audio connection with underground sounds. In the square you can admire the Unicredit Tower (the tallest in Europe). On the way to the Isola district is the Milanese architect Stefano Boeri’s innovative “Vertical Forest” edifice, specially conceived for Expo 2015. The walking tour will continue towards Porta Nuova Varesine, with its three residential Solaria, Solea and Aria high rise blocks. Day 3BERGAMO – LAKE ISEO
Breakfast and departure to Bergamo, a real masterpiece of history, culture, music and landscape, with a medieval heart on top of a hill surrounded by the majestic Venetian Walls, nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take the cable car and start your tour in the Upper Bergamo’s pieces of art with a walking tour which starts from the beautiful Piazza Vecchia, pictured as “Italy’s most beautiful corner” by Hermann Hesse. Visit Colleoni Chapel, the UNESCO Venetian Walls, Palazzo Visconti Brignano and the S. Maria Maggiore Basilica. Lunch on your own to taste local food. In the afternoon continue to Lake Iseo, become worldwide famous thanks to the Floating Piers project by Christo. Boat from Sulzano to Monte Isola, the largest lake island in Europe. Breakfast and departure to Pavia, once the capital of Lombardy and delightful university city. Known as the city of 100 towers though only a few remain intact today, Pavia boasts splendid Romanesque and medieval buildings. Continue on to a hidden gem of Italy, Certosa di Pavia, wonderful building complex commissioned by the Duke of Milan, Galeazzo II Visconti in 1396 as the family mausoleum, intended to resemble Milan’s Duomo. In fact the same architects and craftsmen worked on the construction. It took two hundred years to complete this church, for this reason the Certosa shows signs of different styles, from late Gothic to Renaissance and Mannerism. The front is what instantly catches the eye, a masterpiece of Lombard sculpture, almost an open air museum. A rich and priceless heritage decorates the naves, including works by Perugino. Bellagio sits in front of Lake Como with its promenade, stairways and streets from the bottom to the top, lined with shops and cafes. Explore Villa Serbelloni, one of the several villas mirroring into Lake Como, with its great park extending on the promontory of Bellagio. Count Serbelloni liked to have trails open to vehicles, avenues and paths for almost 18 kilometers inside its park. You can walk in a lush park where you can see cypresses, olive trees, hedges shaping the terraces, geometric flowerbeds and subtropical species. From here you can enjoy the spectacular view on the Lake Como and its two branches: a panorama of extraordinary beauty. The Manzonian air is breathed above all in the Pescarenico district, of which the writer described the landscape so meticulously. Admire also Belgiojoso Palace in the district of Castello in Lecco is a fine building dated back to the late 18th century. It has a U shape opening on the internal park. The centre of Stresa, radiating from Piazza Cadorna, is full of shops, cafés and restaurants evoking the atmosphere of the Belle Époque which illustrious travellers like Stendhal, Chateaubriand, Dumas, Dickens and Lord Byron described in their writings. Afterwards continue by ferry to Isola Bella to see the 17th century baroque palace built by Carlo III of the House of Borromeo for his wife Isabella.
